tiny squirrel

This morning I got up early and went on a long walk (8 or 9 miles-ish), including a pass through Chrissy Field and the Coastal Trail. Just another sunny, warm San Francisco day in June (I was wearing fleece when I took this):

I am definitely getting lame in my old age, because I actually TOOK A NAP early this afternoon because I was tired from walking. Oy. Then after that, I wanted to knit but nothing currently on my needles was of any interest, so I started a new little project, the Squirrel and Oak mittens from Hello Yarn.

I finished the first one, but they are really small and I will have to find someone tiny to give them to. I might get motivated to make another pair out of heavier yarn so they will come out to normal adult size. But the more likely scenario is that I won't even finish the mate to this one, because I'm like that.

FYI, I have unusually small hands for someone of my stature.

Is that the California ground squirrel?
